Using BlueBrain to create a miniature 3D printed, Pi controlled Turtle, Logo style. The turtle can be controlled from Pi using Scratch, Python or Node-RED programming interface.

Here's a video of the Cannybots Turtle being controlled from a Pi, iPad and Android tablet using the Cannybots Turtle app and our Cannyblocks Scratch-like interface.
First pass... the diameter of the base is 80mm. Hole in the middle to take the pen. Video coming soon.

One thing that might be interesting, as a future extension, you might be able to use a UV laser and a painted surface, which may add the ability to "pen up" and "pen down"? (though maybe this would be less "classroom friendly")

That's a nice idea.
Our new BlueBrain boards have enough spare IO pins to add a servo (or other actuator) to physically move a pen.
Theres plenty more IO to add even more lights or some sounds like a buzzer
